Card Making Supplies for Newbies

Welcome back! Today I want to talk about card making for newbies, aka Me. I am newer to card making and finding the correct supplies, tools, and techniques has been a bit of a journey for me. I decided to blog about it in case anyone else is starting to make cards and might find my tips on supplies helpful.

I have been a scrapbooking for 20+ years and I have accumulated a room full of supplies. As my children have grown I have found myself with fewer and fewer pictures, but I still have an urge to create. Transitioning to card making was the natural progression. But I found that the supplies is sometimes a bit different.

Card bases, Stamping, Water Colors, Adhesive, Jewel Pickers, and so much more. I admit that I probably do not need all of it, but I am Obsessed with pretty crafty items. at this time I have made quite a few cards and have been happy with the results.   I have been selling the cards in a booth in an antique shop and I have sold quite a few. I sell them for only $1.99. I have seen people with $8.00 dollar cards and I hope to one day deserve a bit more for my cards, but that comes with experience, and as a newbie I am just excited to be selling them.

Okay on to the good stuff, I started to watch you tube video’s for techniques to use on cards and I realize that now-a-days it is a lot about new supplies, name brand and that equals $$$$$$$. I decided that I needed to be smart, I already spend way to long creating each and every card, spending millions on supplies is just not smart. I took a long tour of my crafty supplies and hacked my way thru some of the needed supplies. What I did not have a ordered thru Oriental Trading.

Before we go any further I want to share two cards that I made with the new goodies I ordered.

For the background I used Oriental Trading water color supplies, Stampin Up background stamp and shimmer mist.

Close up of the background.

In addition to the supplies listed above I used my Cricut, dollies and ink pads from my stash. Oriental Trading has some very affordable supplies. Below I put pictures and links to the supplies that is much needed for card makers.  these items are much more affordable than the comparable crafty name counter part.

If anyone is interested in tutorials on this card technique let me know, I would be excited to show you all.
